    Hydraulic Purlin Machines: Features and Benefits

    Hydraulic on a purlin line is usually three systems: mandrel expand, pre-punch, and cut. They are not the main mill drive. Named C, CZ and CUZ packs keep punch kW and host kW apart.

    1. What the phrase usually buys

    A hydraulic purlin machine in search ads is almost never a mill whose stands are driven by hydraulic motors. The host is still electric (chain, gearbox, or servo). “Hydraulic” on the RFQ usually means: hydraulic expand on the decoiler, hydraulic pre-punch, and/or hydraulic cut. Those are three purchase lines. Write them separately.

    C vs Z vs C/Z interchange is a different fork — already covered. This page is only the hydraulic kit on those hosts.

    The hydraulic-system wiki notes that decoiler packs are often independent so service on the reel does not kill the punch/cut pack. Catalog “few kW / ~20 MPa” decoiler packs are industry orientation, not a ZTRFM nameplate — use the OEM sheet for the machine you buy.

    3. Why holes are punched in the flat

    Structural C, Z and C/Z lines commonly punch connection holes before the stands. Production speed notes often already include punch/shear cadence. Punching after form fights a closed C and wrecks hole location when the section springs.

    Multiple stations on one manifold need sequencing so pressure does not collapse mid-stroke. The CZ auto-changeover process sheet names three hydraulic pre-punch stations. The CUZ sheet names three stations with ellipse 14.3 × 25.4 mm (9/16 × 1 in). Those hole families are not interchangeable by HMI text.

    4. Cut is a package, not a slogan

    The purlin shear wiki lists stop-cut / hydraulic CTL, flying shear or flying saw, and twist-break. Compare speed only when punch method and shear type match. A flying-saw motor about 15 kW appears on some C/U references — that is a flying-saw package, not the CZ sheet’s “cut+punch 15 kW” tank, and not the fixed-C 5.5 kW stop shear.

    Z Automatic baseline main ~18.5 kW stays on the Z page. It is not the motor for this page’s hydraulic punch or cut.

    6. One tank or two

    If punch and cut fire together, the pack must cover the peak or the PLC must sequence them. Undersize shows up as soft cuts and buckled ends. Fan-cooled stations appear on several named builds; that is cooling, not extra forming power.

    Hydraulic expand on a 6 t head is still the decoiler. It does not make the mill a “hydraulic drive purlin machine.”

    8. Buyer FAQ

    Is a hydraulic purlin machine faster than a “normal” one?

    Only if you compare matching punch and shear packages. Stop-cut cadence is not flying-saw cadence.

    Does hydraulic punch replace a mechanical press?

    On these lines the hydraulic stations are the usual flexible hole kit. Force still has to match thickness. It is not a 300 t guardrail punch copied onto a purlin.

    Can I copy 15 kW from CZ cut+punch onto the fixed-C shear?

    No. Fixed-C stop shear in this catalogue is 5.5 kW.

    Is hydraulic decoiler the same as automatic decoiler?
