On a continuous purlin forming line, cutting to length decides delivery quality. Cut too long and material is wasted. Cut too short and the part won't fit on site. A cold rolled purlin machine that keeps every purlin the same length depends on how the encoder, PLC, and cutting system work together. This machine uses a PLC and touchscreen to manage the cutting cycle.
This equipment mainly processes purlin structural parts and frame profiles for:
Roof purlins and wall purlins for steel structure buildings
Frame support components for industrial plants and warehouses
Continuous cold roll forming of galvanized and cold rolled steel
Batch purlin production with cut to length control
These products share common points: material has a certain thickness, the cross section must stay consistent, and length needs precise control. On a rollforming purlin machine, continuous production cannot afford frequent stops for adjustment, or the whole line output suffers.

The parameters above describe the machine configuration of this cold rolled purlin machine.
How the encoder measures length
On a cold rolled purlin machine, the encoder is installed on the machine and detects material travel length in real time. It sends the length signal to the PLC continuously as the trigger for the cutting action. Encoder response speed and signal stability affect length detection accuracy.
How the PLC controls the cutting action
The PLC receives the length signal from the encoder and sends a command to trigger cutting when the material reaches the set length. On a rollforming purlin machine, the control system uses a PLC and touchscreen with a Chinese and English interface.
How the cutting system executes the cut
For a hydraulic purlin machine, cutting uses hydraulic drive and stops after forming. The hydraulic station power is 7.5 kW and uses 46# hydraulic oil. The blade material is Cr12mov with quenching treatment. The blade can be manually adjusted to cut different size channels without changing to a new blade.

Length consistency in continuous production
A cold rolled purlin machine with this control setup keeps the cutting action tied to the length signal. The encoder detects material length in real time, and the PLC triggers cutting based on the signal. Each purlin is cut to the set length, with length tolerance controlled within 3000mm ± 1.0mm. Consistent length can reduce the need for piece by piece measurement and trimming on site.
Two blade sets reduce downtime for blade changes
Blades are wear parts, and wear is inevitable. On a cold rolled purlin machine, two blade sets mean when one set wears out, the spare can be swapped in to keep production running.
Key spare parts support maintenance continuity
The spare parts list includes encoders, blades, seal rings, and more. On a rollforming purlin machine, the encoder is the core component of the length measuring system, and the blade is the key wear part in the cutting process. Double spares for these parts support maintenance continuity.

Cr12MoV blade material and heat treatment
Cr12MoV is a cold work die steel. After quenching treatment, it balances hardness and toughness. On a cold rolled purlin machine, the blade directly contacts the material, and its material and treatment affect cut quality and replacement frequency. When buying, asking about blade material and heat treatment is more meaningful than looking at price alone.
Spare parts configuration
The spare parts list includes 2 spare encoders, 1 spare blade set, seal rings, and more. For a hydraulic purlin machine, the encoder is the core component of the length measuring system, and the blade is the key wear part in the cutting process. Double spares for these parts reflect attention to production continuity.

This cold rolled purlin machine can be configured for different production needs. Material thickness, profile section, and length accuracy requirements can be confirmed at the configuration stage.
The PLC control system also applies to a rollforming purlin machine in similar production setups.
For a hydraulic purlin machine, the same control approach can be used when the production process requires it. For specific production requirements, the cold rolled purlin machine configuration can be adjusted accordingly.
