Steel mills produce wide coils, often over a thousand millimeters across. Downstream factories need strips of varying widths for different manufacturing processes.
A slitting steel machine uses circular blades to slit wide coils lengthwise into multiple narrow strips. This article covers the working process, applications, equipment advantages, and core parameters to help you understand how this equipment works in metal manufacturing.

The working process follows five core steps, running continuously from coil entry to finished strip output.
The entry coil car delivers the coil to the uncoiler. The uncoiler expands from inside the coil to secure it, then unwinds the strip steadily. The press and pinch device pushes the strip forward to the next unit. The uncoiler supports up to 15 tons.

The hydraulic cutter trims the uneven coil head to ensure a clean entry into the main unit. Looper 1 acts as a buffer zone, balancing speed differences between the uncoiler and the slitter. When the uncoiler slows, the looper continues supplying material; when it speeds up, the extra material stores in the looper.

The side guide device keeps the strip centered to prevent wandering. The slitter uses circular blades to cut the strip lengthwise into multiple narrow strips. Blade gap adjusts based on thickness. The scrap winder removes edge trim simultaneously. A cutting slitting machine like this one ensures clean, precise cuts across the entire strip width.


Looper 2 buffers speed fluctuations again. The tension stand maintains stable recoiling tension to prevent strips from loosening or deforming during recoiling. The recoiler winds finished strips into uniform coils. After winding, the exit coil car carries the finished coil away.
