Roll Forming Industry Associations and Trade Shows

I'm Iris Xu, a Sales Manager in ZTRFM.

One number stopped me at a planning meeting: EuroBLECH 2024 drew 1,317 exhibitors and 38,946 visitors from 114 countries across 160,000 square metres of hall. That is not a trade show, it is a small city built for sheet metal. If you buy or build roll forming lines, these events are where the industry agrees on what good looks like, and missing them means learning about it a year late.

    The shows worth the flight

Four events cover most of what a roll forming buyer needs to see. Frequencies and venues shift, so check the organiser site before you book, but the pattern below is current as of 2026.

Show Where and when What it covers
EuroBLECH Hannover, Germany, every two years; 20-23 Oct 2026 The world leading sheet metal working fair; forming, cutting, digital manufacturing
METALFORM Run by the Precision Metalforming Association; North America and Mexico Metal forming processes including roll forming, stamping, fabricating
FENGBAO (CIHF) China International Hardware Fair, Shanghai, annual; 39th edition 24-26 Mar 2026 Hardware, tools, mechanical equipment, machine components
FABTECH North America, largest metal forming event; Las Vegas 21-23 Oct 2026 Forming, fabricating, welding, finishing under one roof

EuroBLECH has run in Hannover since 1969 and stays biennial, which gives exhibitors time to bring genuine new machines rather than rebranded old ones. FABTECH 2026 returns to Las Vegas for the first time in ten years with around 1,400 exhibitors and over 31,000 attendees. FENGBAO, the China International Hardware Fair, is the annual Shanghai meeting point for hardware and machine components, useful when you are sourcing tooling, drives, or spare parts close to the supply base.

The bodies that set the tone

Shows are the stage, but the associations write the script. The Precision Metalforming Association, PMA, dates back to 1913 and represents the North American forming industry, including roll forming as a process category. The Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, FMA, runs FABTECH with partner bodies and covers fabricating technology. The Tube and Pipe Association International, TPA, handles tubular and section know how. On the research side, CIRP, the International Academy for Production Engineering, publishes much of the academic work on roll forming mechanics that software vendors later turn into tools.

These groups matter to a buyer because their conference tracks and standards discussions are where a coating class, a tolerance, or a safety practice becomes normal before it becomes a line item in your spec.

EuroBLECH 2026 carries the theme "For a Stronger Future, Smart and Sustainable Production," which tells you where the exhibitors are spending: automation, lower energy use, and cleaner material flow. Reading the theme before you go is a fast way to filter the halls that matter to your buying plan, because the show is too large to walk blind.

    Why a buyer should attend

A brochure shows a machine at its best. A show floor shows it running, and more importantly shows the neighbour's machine running next to it. Three things you only get in person:

    • You see the line make parts, so you can judge noise, speed, and scrap instead of reading a claim.
    • You meet the engineers who will actually answer your support call, not the booth model.
    • You compare three suppliers in one hall and learn the real price of a feature you thought was standard.

It is worth saying that not every show fits every buyer. EuroBLECH is the global benchmark for forming technology and the place to see a full line run. FABTECH covers North America and adds welding and finishing under one roof, useful if your parts need post operations. FENGBAO, the China International Hardware Fair, is the annual Shanghai event for hardware, tools, and machine components, and the easiest way to stand in the Asian supply base for rolls, drives, and spares. METALFORM, run by the Precision Metalforming Association, keeps roll forming in view as one process among many in metal forming. Pick by market first, then by process.

For a purchaser weighing a six figure line, one day on the floor is worth a month of email.

How to get the most from a show

A trade show rewards planning. The list below is what we tell first time visitors from our own team.

    • Write the three questions you must answer before you fly, and rank them.
    • Book stand meetings with shortlisted suppliers before the show, the good engineers are busy by noon.
    • Carry a sample of your actual coil and a drawing, so a vendor can give a real answer, not a polite one.
    • Sit in one conference session on your process, the hallway talk is where trends surface first.
    • Photograph the name badge and the machine tag, you will forget which stand was which by Friday.
    • Send a one page note to your team the same evening, while the comparison is still sharp.

Most organisers now run a year round online layer as well. FABTECH, for example, keeps a continuous platform between events where suppliers post videos and specs, so you can shortlist before you travel and use the floor to confirm rather than discover. Treat the online catalogue as homework and the hall as the exam.

The associations earn a second mention here because their standards work outlasts any single show. When PMA or FMA publishes guidance on a forming practice or a safety rule, it shapes what the exhibitors build the next year. Following their bulletins is a low cost way to stay ahead of a specification change that would otherwise surprise you at tender time.

If your team is new to these events, send two people with split agendas, one for machines and one for tooling and spares, and compare notes each evening. A show is easier to cover and harder to forget when the notes are written the same day.

    Practical takeaway

Pick one anchor show per year that matches your market, EuroBLECH for global forming tech, FABTECH for North America, FENGBAO for the Asian supply base, and treat it as research, not tourism. Walk in with a ranked question list and a coil sample, and you will leave with prices and tolerances you can trust.

At ZTRFM we design and build roll forming lines and tooling, and we keep a close eye on these shows and associations so our machines track where the industry is going, not where it was. If you plan to attend one this year, tell us which, and we can point you to the stands worth your time.
