Automatic C/Z Purlin Interchange Line Solution

C/Z interchangeable purlin line for plants that run both C and Z. Dedicated C or Z hosts if year-one mix is one section. Punching and voltage follow the drawing and the site.

    Who it's for

For steel building contractors and section producers who need both C and Z purlins and do not want to tie up floor space, capital and two sets of operators on two machines. The line is bought once and changed over between sections and sizes from the control panel - one section at a time, with the changeover taken out of production; the real question is usually how often you change, and whether that frequency justifies one interchangeable host rather than two dedicated ones.

Roof purlins are frequently Z because they lap; wall rails and simpler spans are often C. One interchangeable line covers both without a second machine - but the two sections are made in separate runs, so plan the changeovers around your delivery schedule.

If you sell many web and flange combinations rather than one fixed section, the value of the line is in the changeover - 1-3 minutes between sizes without pulling a roll set.

If 90 per cent of your output is C at one or two sizes, a dedicated C machine is the cheaper and simpler way to get there. Use the decision tree below.

    How to choose a line

    1. You need both C and Z, and change over frequently (several times a week) -> The fully automatic C/Z interchangeable line on this page (This page's main line; only one section is produced at a time, switched by batch; size change 1–3 min, C→Z 5–10 min)
    2. You only run C, and sizes are concentrated in a few gauges -> Go to the "dedicated C purlin line" page (Dedicated C is a different host with a simpler structure and a separate quotation — do not quote its power and station count on this page)
    3. You only run Z, never C -> Go to the "dedicated Z purlin line" page (Dedicated Z has its own lap geometry and turning hooks; it is not a setting change on this machine)
    4. You also need U (C/U/Z three sections) -> Go to the C/U/Z three-section entry (Three sections is a different hardware tier, not a third recipe on this machine)
    5. What you need is drywall stud / light-gauge partition -> Go to the light-gauge stud family (0.4–0.8 mm thickness is not the same thing as 1.5–3.0 mm PEB purlin)
    6. You need hat / sigma / I purlin -> Go to the corresponding entry/page (Hat profile is a brim flower, not a C/Z lip; I purlin mostly means hot-rolled beam)

ModelFully automatic C/Z interchangeable purlin line ZT-PURLIN-CZ-AUTO
SectionsC purlin and Z purlin, interchangeable on the same line; one section at a time, the other after changeover (cannot discharge both at once)
Section range Web 80–300 mm; flange 40–80 mm; lip 10–25 mm
    Strip thickness / material1.5–3.0 mm (commonly 2.0–2.5); hot-rolled / cold-rolled / galvanized; Q235 / Q355 / G550
Forming passes / shafts18–20 passes; shaft diameter Ø85–Ø95 mm, 40Cr quenched and tempered
    Speed8–25 m/min; approx. 10–18 m/min in production with punching
PowerMain motor 18.5–22 kW; hydraulic pump station 7.5–11 kW; changeover servo 3×0.75 kW

    What's included

This page covers the automatic C/Z interchangeable purlin line for a single web range of 80-300 mm: the 5 t hydraulic cantilever decoiler, the 7-roller centring leveller, the hydraulic pre-punching system with three dies, the forming host with 18-20 stands on a Ø85-95 mm 40Cr shaft and its changeover servos, the universal hydraulic tracking shear, two 6 m support tables and the touch-screen control cabinet. It also covers the changeover itself - one section at a time, a size in 1-3 minutes and C to Z in 5-10 minutes, taken out of production - the common upgrades that attach to the line (a 10 t automatic decoiler with a coil car, a non-stop flying shear, a full Siemens electrical package, automatic bundling), and the two companions a purlin plant usually considers beside it. Dedicated C machines, dedicated Z machines and the C/U/Z three-section build are outside this page and carry their own quotations.

What to send for a quote

    1. Year-one mix: %C vs %Z and how often you change over
    2. Profile drawings (web / flange / lip) plus hole map (round or slot, diameters and pitch)
    3. Coil: thickness window, yield, GI vs HR, max strip width
    4. Site voltage / frequency / phase (example line 380 V / 50 Hz; some plants use 410 V)
    5. Pre-cut vs post-cut; punch before or after forming
    6. Decoiler class (manual vs hydraulic dual-head) and outfeed (table vs auto stacker)
    7. HMI languages; remote or USB job import if needed

If you need both sections, the host should switch C/Z and size by recipe on the HMI.

Interchange, dedicated C, and dedicated Z each have their own numbers. Send the mix so engineering picks the matching file.

    FAQ

If I only make C, is this machine worth buying?

If 90% of your output is a few C sizes, the dedicated C machine is simpler and cheaper. The value of the interchangeable line is in "switching," not in "making."

Can C and Z be produced at the same time?

No. This machine produces only one section at a time: finish one, change over, then run the other. The line stops during changeover (HMI recipe plus forming-station adjustment, about 5–10 minutes for C↔Z), so C and Z are usually scheduled in separate batches or by coil, and the changeover time has to be deducted from output.

How many people does this line need?

Loading and changeover require manual intervention; normal production is mainly monitoring. The exact staffing depends on your line layout.

    Is punching charged extra?

The 3 sets of hydraulic punch dies are part of the standard configuration; hole shape and position are confirmed against the drawing and are not billed separately as "punched parts."

What if coil weight exceeds 5 t?

The standard supply is a 5 t cantilever uncoiler; when coil weight or crane waiting becomes the bottleneck, add a 10 t automatic uncoiler with a loading car.
